The Japanese, whose respect for tradition is legendary, have started experimenting with their cuisine but even here it is the old traditions that are being redefined to blend with the new. There are some good old tradition restaurants that serve classic foods, but some other benefit restaurants are short-listed.

Oakland has traditionally been overshadowed by it's neighbor, San Francisco, for food and culture. But the city is now gaining in flavor due to a resurgence in dining flair, found at restaurants such as Caffe 817, A Cote, Grasshopper, and Dona Tomas.
