A personal account of fishing for steelhead on Chichigof Island in Alaska and how living in Alaska gives one the opportunity to get closer to nature and animals than would otherwise be possible. Descriptions of encounters with beavers, otters bears and Sitka blacktail deer are given.

A writer living in Alaska migrated to the region to be close to nature. After some time, however, he was influenced by other settlers and started hunting the animals he wanted to be close to. He enjoys hunting but does not enjoy killing.
