A critical window for cooperation and competition among developing retinotectal synapses
Article Abstract:
Retinotectal projection refinement in the developing frog visual system relies on electrical activity. Studies of developing Xenopus tectal neurons show that repetitive correlated spiking of pre- and post synaptic neurons can lead to persistent synaptic potentiation or depression. Gradual refinement of connections leads to the projection of retinal axons. The refinement is abolished in the absence of activity or NMDA-receptor function.

Clocking the birth of neurons
Article Abstract:
Neurons of different types are generated in a conserved, sequential order during the development. These different varieties of nerve cells, are generated in the central nervous system during development.

Long-range signalling by touch
Article Abstract:
Touch mechanism used by nerve cells to convey information over long distance is analysed. The role of filopodia and signaling protein in transmitting signals at the junction of nerve cells are described.
