A fish raised on floodwater
Article Abstract:
A description of Polyodon spathula, or the paddlefish, is presented. The paddlefish, a freshwater fish found in the Mississippi River, developed a proboscis nearly a third of its length which allows it to navigate murky waters with heavy silt loads resulting from frequent floods. Dams that have reduced floodplain backwaters may cause paddlefish to become endangered.
