Future of German neutron source hangs in the balance
Article Abstract:
The proposed opening of a 20-MW research reactor in 2001 may depend on the results of discussions held by the new coalition government in Germany on nuclear policy. A proposal from Jurgen Trittin, Green environment minister to stop the licensing of new nuclear reactors, will be addressed. The FRM II reactor being built by the Technical University of Munich at Garching, has opposition from environmental groups as it can burn bomb-grade, highly enriched uranium (HEU).
