The European Union council agreed to the inclusion of ethically approved human embryonic stem-cell research in its next round of research funding, in a cliffhanger decision taken on 24, July 2006. The US expressed a different sentiment much to the disappointment of microbiologists, when its president George Bush vetoed a bill that would support the taking of innocent human life in the hope of finding medical benefits for others.

Icelandic database shelved as court judges privacy in peril
Article Abstract:
The transfer of health related information of a dead patient to a proposed genetic database would infringe the privacy rights of the man's descendants, was ruled by the Iceland's supreme court. The consequences of this ruling on the nations plan for health sector database to hold a centralized electronic health record on its population is discussed.

Europe's researchers up in arms over clinical-trial rules
Article Abstract:
The European Union (EU) has new rules on patent trials. Around two thousand clinical researchers have resigned since the implementation of this new rule. The reasons for their resignation are discussed.
