A new protein containing an SH2 domain that inhibits JAK kinases
Article Abstract:
Cytokines are proteins that regulate important cellular responses, such as differentiation and proliferation. They work by binding to receptors on the cell surface that are linked to members of the JAK family of cytoplasmic tyrosine kinases. A new SH2-domain-containing protein, termed JAB, has been isolated using the yeast two-hybrid system. JAB, structurally related to CIS, is a JAK-binding protein that appears to regulate functions in the JAK signalling pathway.

Angiogenic factor
Article Abstract:
Platelet-derived endothelial cell growth factor (PD-ECGF), a protein, causes angiogenesis in vivo and endothelial cell growth and chemotaxis in vitro. New research has found that the 120 amino acids for human thymidine phosphorylase are the same as PD-ECGF's sequence, indicating that the two molecules originate from the same gene. This finding may lead to further research on PD-ECGF's role in angiogenesis.

Lymphangiogenesis in development and human disease
Article Abstract:
Progress in the fast growing field of vascular biology with particular emphasis on the understanding and management of lymphatic, dysfunction, inflammation and tumour metastasis is summarized. Lymphangionesis research will lead to better understanding and treatment of these diseases.
