Conventional means of insect pest control are slowly being questioned in view of alarming ecological problems. One alternative is Integrated Pest Management (IPM). The new technique uses predators, parasites, pathogens, traps and other means, while chemical use is always the last option.

Wildlife can be attracted by planting trees to provide nesting sites, shelter, and food. Hedges and thickets can create a haven of biodiversity, and berry shrubs are particularly good for this. For people with smaller spaces, flowers can attract small forms of wildlife.
