A review of environmental factors affecting elk winter diets
Article Abstract:
Data from 72 studies conducted in western North America between 1938 and 2002 is used to collate data on elk diets and environmental variables. Variation in elk diets is well-elucidated by a consistent tendency to select graminoids if available, modified by winter habitat type, predation risk, and winter severity, which can restrict habitat selection and access to grazing opportunities.

Factors predicting den use by maternal giant pandas
Article Abstract:
The denning ecology of giant pandas in the Foping Nature Reserve, China is studied by identifying 17 used and 21 unused cavities of appropriate size to accommodate denning. It is seen that the availability of suitable dens may limit population size, especially in areas where tree dens are eliminated by logging of old growth forests.
