A review of methods to estimate cause-specific mortality in presence of competing risks
Article Abstract:
An update analysis of cause-specific mortality in wildlife research from a modern biostatistical perspective is undertaken since estimating this is of vital importance for understanding the dynamics of wildlife populations. Cause-specific mortality is defined and an appropriate hazard-based representation as a competing risks problem is provided which leads to the general solution of cause-specific mortality as the cumulative incidence function (CIF).

Extirpation risk of an isolated black bear population under different management scenarios
Article Abstract:
The extinction probability of isolated population of black bear was estimated using population viability analysis in Ontario, Canada. Protection of habitats adjacent to reserves which are too small to endure population of bears and protection of females of reproductive age from non natural death could help in preventing extinction of black bears.

Woodland caribou extirpation and anthropogenic landscape disturbance in Ontario
Article Abstract:
Assessment of 9 anthropogenic disturbance types to define the southern limit based on a model developed from a database of historical woodland caribou occupancy in Ontario, suggest management of woodland caribou to incorporate buffers around habitat and long-term observation of range occupancy.
