A role for retinoblastoma protein in potentiating transcriptional activation by the glucocorticoid receptor
Article Abstract:
The retinoblastoma (RB) protein activates glucocorticoid-receptor-mediated transcription but its mechanism has long been unknown. However, the study of in vitro and in vivo RB and human SWI2/SNF2 homolog (hBrm) interactions as compared to transcription activation show that RB only affects transcription when hBrm is present while hBrm's affect is increased substantially in the presence of RB. Therefore, a combination of RB and hBrm positively influences the glucocorticoid-receptor-mediated transcription.

Myc and Max proteins possess distinct transcriptional activities
Article Abstract:
The closely related Myc and Max proteins have opposite effects on genetic transcription. Overexpression of Myc stimulates transcription of the reporter gene while overexpression of Max stifles transcription. Moreover, Myc overexpession counteracts Max overexpression. Repression of transcription depends on Max's DNA-binding domain but the undoing of repression needs the dimerization and transcriptional activation powers of Myc.

Mechanism of active transcriptional repression by the retinoblastoma protein
Article Abstract:
The retinoblastoma tumor-suppressor protein (Rb) is bound to select promoters through interactions with E2F cell-cycle transcription factors, and then inhibits the activity of the transcription factors by preventing their interaction with the basal transcription complex. This activity of Rb is necessary for the inhibition of the activity of promoters which contain E2F sites and transcription enhancers.
