A single amino acid governs enhanced activity of DinB DNA polymerases on damaged templates
Article Abstract:
Mutating a single amino acid, the 'steric gate' residue of DinB and that of its archael homologue Dbh, separates the abilities of these enzymes to perform TLS over N(super 2)-dG adducts from their abilities to replicate an undamaged template. It is therefore, proposed that DinB and its orthologues are specialized to catalyze relatively accurate TLS over some N(super2) -dG adducts that are ubiquitous in nature, that lesion bypass occurs more efficiently than synthesis on undamaged DNA.

The study reports the identification of a regulatory system in the bacterium Pseudomonas aeruginosa that determines whether it causes disease or lies low and simply persists. It concluded that RetS is normally required for the full expression of the factors required to produce an acute infection, and are consistent with the decreased ability of RetS-deficient P. Aeruginosa to cause disease.

Article Abstract:
Basis for pseudomonas aeruginosa biofilm antibiotic resistance is genes. Results indicate that biofilms are not simply a diffusion barrier to the antibiotics, but rather bacteria within these microbial communities employ distinct mechanism to resist the action of antimicrobial agents.
