A transglutaminase homologue as a condensation catalyst in antibiotic assembly lines
Article Abstract:
A transglutaminase (TGase) homologue, AdmF, has catalyzed the formation of the first amide bond, an N-acyl-[beta]-peptide link, in andrimid biosynthesis. Genome mining using the AdmF sequence has yielded additional TGases in unassigned natural product biosynthetic pathways, thus producing new classes of antibiotics.

Cryptic chlorination by a non-haem iron enzyme during cyclopropyl amino acid biosynthesis
Article Abstract:
The activity of five proteins, CmaA, CmaB, CmaC, CmaD, CmaE, in the construction of coronamic acid is reported. One of the results reveal that CmaC catalyses the formation of the cyclopropyl ring from the gamma-Cl-L-allo-isoleucine product of the CmaB reaction.
