AIDS vaccine research becomes 'big science'
Article Abstract:
AIDS researchers are divided over whether a 'big science' strategy involving huge data-sharing collaborations will really boost the progress towards an AIDS vaccine. The Bill & Melinda Gates Foundation has announced a $300 million grant for HIV vaccine research, but has asked the research groups to organize themselves into bigger consortia, then jointly submit large, multimillion-dollar proposals with clear milestones and goals.

Article Abstract:
The impact of creating cheap or open-access journals on the expensive commercial journals is discussed. These journals have fared better as far as scientific credibility is concerned and are getting support through subscriptions, but have got very poor support from libraries.

The pressure on BMJ (British Medical Journal) from AIDS researchers over a series of its publications on its website is discussed. In the BMJ website for 'AIDS', one in six of the top 300 article returns are written by AIDS 'revisionists'.
