Absence of spectrally specific lateral inputs to midget ganglion cells in primate retina
Article Abstract:
Amacrine cells linked to midget ganglion cells receive inputs from both the middle- and long-wavelength sensitive cones with equal frequency. All the bipolar cells that are near the processes of the amacrine cells form connections with the cells. The inputs and outputs of the amacrine cells are not antagonistic as they are usually to the same bipolar cell. Lack of specific lateral inputs suggests that the midget ganglion cells are not involved in the visual perception of color.

Melanopsin-expressing ganglion cells in primate retina signal color, irradiance, and project to the LGN
Article Abstract:
Human vision begins when the rod photoreceptors are turned on in dim light and short, medium and long wavelength responsive cone photoreceptors in daytime. Finally, the description of anatomically specific inhabitants of 'giant', melanopsin displays ganglion cells in primate retina and furthermore it is photosensitive and set in motion by rods and cones.
