Accessibility of information on the web
Article Abstract:
There were an estimated 2.8 million servers on the publicly indexible World-Wide Web as of Feb 1999, according to research based on randomly selected Internet Protocol addresses and testing for a web server at the standard port. The amount of data on the publicly indexible web was estimated at 15 terabytes of pages, or 6 terabytes of textual content. A manual classification of the first 2,500 randomly found web servers indicates that around 6% of web servers have scientific/educational content.
