Accuracy of GPS telemetry collar locations with differential correction
Article Abstract:
Global Positioning System (GPS) units provide precise estimates of animal locations when used in telemetry collars. The precision of each GPS mode was compared, based on uncorrected mode and differential mode location calculations, on free ranging moose. The number of satellites used was varied and it was found that 2-dimensional locations were nearly as precise as 3-dimension locations, with known GPS unit altitude. GPS telemetry can therefore be used for precise animal tracking throughout the year.

Accuracy of Ariel telemetry locations in mountainous terrain
Article Abstract:
Accuracy tests were conducted using Ariel telemetry system and transmitter locating procedures, in Bear River Mountain Range in northern Utah and southeastern Idaho, USA, during 3 flights in the first 2 weeks of September 1989. The recovery of carcasses of animals determined to be dead during the coyote movement study of 17 Ariel locations reported a mean horizontal error of 275 m.
