After Katrina: Tracking the toxic flood
Article Abstract:
Marine researchers are starting to assess the safety of fish and shellfish exposed to toxic floodwaters in the Gulf of Mexico, three weeks after Hurricane Katrina ravaged the coasts of Mississippi and Louisiana. Shailer Cummings of the National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration led a food safety team into the Gulf for a three-day expedition on board the research vessel 'Nancy Foster'.

Mislabelling of a depleted reef fish
Article Abstract:
A molecular phylogenetic analysis is used to investigate the extent of possible mislabelling in the United States by examining fish purchased by nine vendors in eight states. The product mislabelling in this case threatened to distort the status of fish stocks, which contributes to the false impression that the supply of fish is keeping up with demand.

Don't imitate: Wait for the real thing
Article Abstract:
An account is presented on imitation wines labeled as vintage wines. Real wines or vinified wines are hard to find, but it is more enjoyable to wait for the wine to mature, than to enjoy them before time or taste imitations passing off as vintage wines.
