Agency set up to tackle bioterror
Article Abstract:
The U.S. Congress has created a new agency, the Biomedical Advanced Research and Development Authority (BARDA) that would allocate $1 billion to companies that are developing drugs and vaccine to tackle bioterror and pandemic agents. The new agency BARDA, established by the biodefence bill as part of the Department of Health and Human Services would initially get $1 billion over two years to fund civilian research on counter measures to bioterror and pandemic threats.

Cancer chief embraces top drugs job
Article Abstract:
Andrew von Eschenbach would oversee the US Food and Drug Administration (FDA) as well as his National Cancer Institute (NCI), following the surprise resignation of its embattled commissioner. As the head of the FDA, his job is to regulate the companies that are bringing products before the agency to cure cancer, which is being criticized.
