Brain imaging ready to detect terrorists, say neuroscientists
Article Abstract:
Neuroscientists from the University of Pennsylvania School of Medicine in Philadelphia use functional magnetic resonance imaging (fMRI) to track people's brains when they lie and tell the truth by developing an algorithm that can detect lies from truth with 99% accuracy and is reliable enough to track criminals. The fMRI monitors the central nervous system so that when someone lies, their brain inhibits them from telling the truth, and this makes the frontal lobes more active.

Adult suicides linked to popular antidepressant
Article Abstract:
Researchers based at the University of Oslo in Norway reveal that patients taking paroxetine, a drug that is used to treat millions of depressed people are more likely to attempt suicide than those taking a placebo. Paroxetine belongs to a class of drugs called selective serotonin re-uptake inhibitors, which increase the availability in the brain of serotonin, a chemical linked to mood and emotions.

An antidepressant that extends lifespan in adult Caenorhabditis elegans
Article Abstract:
The ageing research related to application of human antidepressant drug to extend the lifespan of adult Caenorhabditis elegans nematodes is reported. The findings could be applied to increase lifespan by imposing dietary restriction through blocking signalling response to neurotransmitter serotonin.
