Mass mortality and population declines of anurans at an upland site in Western Panama
Article Abstract:
Worldwide population declines in amphibians are troubling because amphibians are a sensitive indicator species for environmental contamination. Determining whether declines reported in different areas have a common cause has been difficult. Declining populations of anurans, a species of frog, in Western Panama were caused by a fungal infection similar to those found in anurans elsewhere in Central America.

Evaluating ultraviolet radiation exposure with satellite data at sites of amphibian declines in Central and South America
Article Abstract:
A study done on amphibian survey sites at Central and Southern America using solar UV-B radiation exposure to find out whether UV-B radiation is a contributing factor in amphibian declines is reported. The results indicate that the UV index was consistently higher for Central America where species declines were high and severe.
