An emerging pathophysiology
Article Abstract:
Excessive dopamine-mediated neurotransmission or high-levels of D2-like receptors in the brain were believed to be the key factors in the etiology and pathophysiology of schizophrenia for decades. However, this view has given way to the emerging hypothesis that pathophysiological mechanisms in specific brain pathways in schizophrenic patients involve more than one neurotransmitter or receptor type. Recent findings indicate the presence of reduced levels of D1-like dopamine receptors in the prefrontal cortex of patients with schizophrenia.

Lawrence C. Katz (1956-2005)
Article Abstract:
Lawrence C. Katz, a neuroscientist, left behind a precious legacy of technological innovation, during his tragically short 25-year career. Katz was a new scientist, able to combine innovation with a willingness to work on problems such as those of the wiring of the visual system, that seemed too complex to approach experimentally, who had an untimely death from melanoma on 26 November 2005.
