Controlled exchange interaction between pairs of neutral atoms in an optical lattice
Article Abstract:
An optical lattice of double-well potentials are used for isolating and manipulating arrays of paired [super 87]Rb atoms, including controlled entangling interactions within each pair. A repeated interchange of spin between atoms occupying different vibrational levels is observed, thus showing the essential component of a neutral atom quantum SWAP gate.

Maturation trends indicative of rapid evolution preceded the collapse of northern cod
Article Abstract:
Northern cod, comprising populations of Atlantic cod off southern Labrador and eastern Newfoundland, supported major fisheries for hundreds of years. Until the moratorium, the life history of northern cod continually shifted towards maturation at earlier ages and smaller sizes.

Temperature-induced valence transition and associated lattice collapse in samarium fulleride
Article Abstract:
A high resolution synchrotron X-ray diffraction, and magnetic suseptibility measurements, are used to cool the rare-earth fulleride Sm2.75C60, which induces an isosymmetric phase transition and a samarium valence transition from (2+e)+ to nearly 2+.
