An integrative model of the lactational and environmental control of mating in female rhesus monkeys
Article Abstract:
A model of lactational and environmental control of female rhesus monkeys' mating has been dreived from studies which indicate that the length of time between birth and mating can be predicted to a great extent on the time of birth of infants from previous seasons. This finding holds for wild and captive monkeys, those in large and small groups, and monkeys with or without kin in close proximity. Female monkeys appear to progressively lose response to suckling, a loss linked to changes in the environment, early in their mating season. There appears to be a link between various phenomena which initially appear disparate, which help explain rhesus monkey mating behaviour.

Group size, infant development and social networks in free-ranging rhesus monkeys
Article Abstract:
The interaction between demographic processes and primate social structure, social interaction networks or parent-offspring relations was analyzed in natural populations of free-ranging rhesus monkeys. Analysis of non-human primate interactions indicated the significant effects of maternal responses to demographic changes on parent-offspring relations. Furthermore, demographic changes also altered the group structure and the infant's social networks.

Rhesus monkeys, Macaca mulatta, know what others can and cannot hear
Article Abstract:
Ability to understand the association between knowing and hearing is analyzed in rhesus macaque, the monkey species. Use or recouping of different types of vocal signals by animals to deceive other individuals, humans or animals, is presented.
