Article Abstract:

Cockfighting has been the subject of controversy in Oklahoma for many years. A initiative petition has now been submitted to ban cockfighting, but the Supreme Court is reviewing the validity of the signatures on this document. New legislation would double the number of signatures needed for a ballot on any animal protection measure.

Hunting is one of the major causes of animal extinction. Although the Endangered Species Act prohibits the hunting of endangered animals, it is not as strict when it comes to 'threatened' species such as timber wolves and grizzly bears.
