Sir Richard Owen, the Victorian anatomist, was eclipsed by Charles Darwin. On Darwin's death Owen wrote to the Natural History Museum, apparently recommending a statue of Darwin, but close reading of the letter shows that Owen was in fact belittling Darwin's achievements.
