Asymmetry and stability
Article Abstract:
The problem of understanding the stability of complex food webs is addressed, and it is argued that strong asymmetries in energy flow and interaction strengths may be key determinants of ecological stability. An innovative empirical and theoretical analysis is presented to discuss the important structural features of food webs that promote persistence or stability, or the capacity of a system to recover from perturbations in species abundances.

Unsturated fatty acid content in seston and tropho-dynamic coupling in lakes
Article Abstract:
The decreasing efficiency in energy transfer with increasing lake productivity is explained by differences in w3-PUFA-associated food quality at the plant-animal interface. Presence of specific w3-polyunsaturated fatty acids (PUFA) in seston are significantly correlated to the trophic status of the lake.

Trophic cascades across ecosystems
Article Abstract:
A demonstration that fish indirectly facilitate terrestrial plant reproduction through cascading trophic interactions across ecosystem boundaries is presented. Fish reduce larval dragonfly abundances in ponds, leading to fewer adult dragonflies nearby.
