Autocatalytic RNA cleavage in the human beta-globin pre-mRNA promotes transcription termination
Article Abstract:
The study characterizes the autocatalytic core of the CoTC ribozyme and demonstrates its functional role in efficient termination in vivo. It predicts that regulated autocatalytic cleavage elements within pre-mRNAs may be a general phenomenon and that functionality it may provide the entry point for exonuclease involved in mRNA maturation, turnover and, in particular, transcriptional termination.

A unique clonal JAK2 mutation leading to constitutive signalling causes polycythaemia vera
Article Abstract:
A clonal and recurrent mutation in the JH2 pseudo-kinase domain of the Janus kinase (JAK2) gene in most polycythaemia vera patients is described. Polycythaemia vera is an acquired myeloproliferative disorder, characterized by the presence of polycythaemia diversely associated with thrombocytosis, leukocytosis and splenomegaly.

Defects in RGS9 or its anchor protein R9AP in patients with slow photoreceptor deactivation
Article Abstract:
The genetic and molecular basis of bradyopsia detected from five patients is described. Research indicated that absence of RGS9 or its inability to interact with R9AP is responsible for substantial delay in the recovery from light responses.
