Axons follow Reelin routes
Article Abstract:
A study published by J.A.Del Rio et al. provides evidence that the two central aspects of nervous system development, cell migration and cell guidance not only share intracellular molecular mechanisms but may even be regulated by the same extracellular cues. The study also shows that Reelin, a protein initially associated with cell migration seems to regulate aspects of axonal growth and guidance. Reelin acts as a signal that specifies the patterning of the entorhinohippocampal pathway (EHP).

Expression of the UNC-5 guidance receptor in the touch neurons of C. elegans steers their axons dorsally
Article Abstract:
Ectopic expression of the UNC-5 guidance receptor in Caenorhabditis elegans makes touch receptor neurons extend pioneer axons dorsally, rather than longitudinally or ventrally as is normal. UNC-5, encoded by the unc-5 gene, seems to reorient the touch cell growth cones through its normal guidance mechanisms. Pioneer growth cones that normally migrate dorsally on the epidermis may differ from those migrating ventrally or longitudinally only in having different surface receptors.
