Basic research: an economic good

The relationship between basic scientific research and economic growth reveals the social impact of research on society's economic investment. Research enables businesses to explore solutions to technological problems. Government supported industrial-academic collaboration results in high-tech industrial growth that benefits the society, whose funds are invested in research work. Though the use of computation and information technology is less by the public, these are economically significant products.
