Benchmarking international research: The United States leads the world in the impact its research makes in almost every scientific domain. But European countries could challenge that if they were to divide their labours according to their strengths
Article Abstract:
A bibliometric performance indicator study was used to consider the international competitiveness and management of research, looking at total country performance. The study aimed to identify relative strengths and weaknesses between fields of research, focusing in England, Australia, France, Canada, Germany, the US and Japan. It linked information from journals of the international Institute for Scientific Information (ISI) to 69 disciplinary Unites of Assessment (UOAs).

Weathering and glacial cycles
Article Abstract:
The influence of terrestrial and marine biota on the changes in glacial-interglacial climatic conditions is explained by a model developed by J.E. Lovelock and J.R. Kump. The model has several discrepancies since it considers that the CO2 sink requires the land vegetation as a catalyst. The CO2 link does not require land vegetation since the changes in the weathering rate automatically serve as a catalyst.

Timing of the Last Glacial Maximum from observed sea-level minima
Article Abstract:
A study of Northern Australian sediment cores has determined sea levels at the Last Glacial Maximum and estimates the volume of land-based ice during the period.
