Beyond the life list: bird enthusiasts take their hobby to a higher level
Article Abstract:
Volunteer amateur ornithologists have provided valuable information and played a major role in bird conservation activities. About 45,000 volunteers have been involved in conservation and research activities such as bird counting, habitat studies, and population pattern analysis. Many conservation groups search for volunteers as federal budget cuts for wildlife research have led to an increased demand for non-paid, amateur bird researchers.
