Birds extend their ranges northwards
Article Abstract:
The breeding distributions of British birds have been analyzed over 20 years and it was found that the northern margins of some species has moved further north. The shift occured during a period of climatic warming, which may be causally involved. Southern margins of northerly species have not shifted consistently, and this parallels results obtained for European butterflies. Cool temperature margins of temperate species may be more responsive to the direct effect of thermal variations.

Poleward shifts in geographical ranges of butterfly species associated with regional warming
Article Abstract:
Further global warming is predicted to continue for the next 50-100 years. Certain migratory species can adapt the timing or destination of migration in response to yearly climate variation, but most sedentary wildlife species cannot respond so quickly to changes. Of a sample of 35 non-migratory European butterflies, 63% have shifted their ranges to the north by 35-240km during this century, with just 3% shifted to the south.

Climate and species' range
Article Abstract:
Global climate warming influences the distribution of species' range that is moving polewards in latitude and upwards in elevation. The rate of extinction is constant at equilibrium. Climate warming increases the net extinction in the south at low elevations and decrease in the north at high elevations. The Edith's butterfly habitat degradation is latitudinally symmetrical with a lower value at the extremes of the range.
