Both Rb/p16INK4a inactivation and telomerase activity are required to immortalize human epithelial cells
Article Abstract:
Human cells undergo a certain amount of division, entering a non-dividing state known as replicative senesence. This is accompanied by changes such as a rise in inhibitors of cyclin-dependent kinases and telomere shortening. Telomerase activity is found not be sufficient for immortalization of human keratinocyte or mammary epithelial cells. Neither hTERT addition or induction of telomerase activity by E6 leads to immortalization, although inactivation of Rb/p16 pathway by E7 leads to immortalization.

The Rab8 GTPase regulates apical protein localization in intestinal cells
Article Abstract:
The small GTP-binding protein Rab8 plays a very important role in cell polarity by regulating the transport in polarized kidney epithelial cells. The analysis show that this GTPase is very essential for a proper localization of the apical proteins and hence can help in the digestion of various nutrients in the small intestine.
