Breaking the nuclear taboo
Article Abstract:
At a February 2001 meeting of the National Aeronautical and Space Administration, delegates discussed new approaches to exploring the outer Solar System, and found that nuclear-powered rockets were the only solution to the problem of getting spacecraft into orbit around the outer planets. A major obstacle to the use of nuclear powered spacecraft is public fears of anything nuclear, and their influence on the agencies who fund the space expeditions.
