All single-hulled tankers have to be retrofitted or replaced with ships containing two hulls as per the regulations of the International Maritime Organization(IMO). As the deadlines approach, there is a concern that there are not enough ship-breaking yards to cope with the impending rush since single- hulled ships break-up and cause oil spills and consequent environmental havoc.
