Bustard's last bastion: on the plain in Spain, a heavyweight of the bird world still postures and puffs
Article Abstract:
An overview is presented on bustards in Spain. The country is home to approximately half of the species' world population, which totals just over 40,000. The bustard is one of the heaviest of flying birds, with some males weighing up to 33 pounds. Spain is rapidly losing its rural areas, causing the birds to concentrate less on breeding and more on remaining alert.
