Article Abstract:
The European Union (EU) started the world's first mandatory greenhouse-gas emissions trading system in January 2005 where thousands of companies were allocated allowances for emitting a given amount of carbon dioxide. But although the European Commission officially confirmed on 15 May 2005 that EU industries emitted 44 million tonnes less carbon dioxide in 2005 than they were allocated, the predicted information failed to materialize.

Is the global carbon market working?
Article Abstract:
The Clean Development Mechanism (CDM) was established in 2003 by the Kyoto Protocol in order to encourage the developing-country participation to adopt lower-polluting technologies. The CDM might play a key role by creating a secure market for future technology for low-carbon energy.

US proposal for carbon cuts offers compromise
Article Abstract:
The new proposal of cutting down carbon emissions, taken by the US Congress recently is facing a lot of criticism from the corporates. The 'Low Carbon Economy Act' aims at reducing the carbon output of the country tremendously for the safety of the global climate.
