The funds for Washington University in St. Louis and the Stowers Institute for Medical Research in Kansas City have contributed for hundreds of new science and technology jobs. William Neaves, president of the Stowers Institute, believes in expanding the development and has done it by recruiting 20 principal investigators, including a few who gave up prestigious Howard Hughes Medical Institute awards to join.

Japan aims to let industry compete for grant money
Article Abstract:
The Japanese government is planning to open the country's main research programmes and projects to industrial participation. The Council for Science and Technology Policy (CSTP) is responsible for this major transfer of resources from universities to more applied research projects in industrial labs.
