Reproduction suppression in male alpine marmots
Article Abstract:
Reproduction suppression in subordinate male alpine marmots, Marmota marmota, varies with age and individual status, and is associated with changes in body mass, plasma corticosteroids, androgens and gonadal development. Androgen and corticosteroid are negatively correlated with body mass in two-year-old subordinate males and older subordinates in non-sons. High corticosteroid levels in spring reduce subsequent gain in body mass and inhibit success of reproduction. Other variables indicating reproduction suppression are discussed, and comparisons with territorial males are presented.

Reproductive suppression in female Alpine marmots, Marmota marmota
Article Abstract:
The mechanisms responsible for reproductive skew in female Alpine marmots were studied. Further, the results indicated the negative effects of stress on the activity of the hypothalamic-pituitary-gonadal axis that mediates the reproductive suppression in female Alpine marmots.
