Cold as brass
Article Abstract:
Potential in the UK market place for a brand leader in the small scale air conditioning sector is immense as the public's awareness of the benefits of air conditioning in both the home and office increase. The UK small scale air conditioning market is valued at 65 million pounds sterling in 1999, with up to 178,000 units being sold. New buildings tend to be fitted with air conditioning, with larger buildings more likely than small buildings to have the facility. A cool summer in 1998 had a dampening affect on the market, although increased temperatures in the future are expected to drive sales up.

Chaperoning extended life
Article Abstract:
Genetic research using the fruit fly Drosophila melanogaster shows that heat-shock proteins extend life-span under stressful conditions. Experiments with transgenic D. melonogaster strains show that hsp70 gene expression produces heat-shock proteins which aid organism survival in raised temperatures. Evidence suggests that hsp70 protein may always be present in the bloodstream of organisms which frequently experience stress.
