Chemical structure of sterols that activate oocyte meiosis
Article Abstract:
The importance of C29 sterols for oocyte meiosis can be demonstrated through the introduction of two synthesized and two isolated C29 sterols into both cultured cumulus-enclosed and naked mouse oocytes. The isolated sterols are from adult bull testis and human follicular fluid. The experiment showed that meiosis can be activated or resumed through the introduction of C29 sterols across both species and sexes, indicating their nonspecificity.

The signature of chemical valence in the electrical conduction through a single-atom contact
Article Abstract:
It is possible to fabricate structures at the atomic scale using state of the art techniques to manipulate single atoms. It is shown that the chemical valence determines the conduction properties of a one-atom contact between two metallic banks. It is assumed that the number of current-carrying modes of a one atom contact is determined by the available valence orbitals, and should differ for metallic elements in the periodic table.

Expanding the diversity of chemical protein modification allows post-translational mimicry
Article Abstract:
A chemical tagging approach that enables attachment of multiple modifications to bacterially expressed protein scaffolds and allows reconstitution of functionally effective mimics of higher organism post-translational modifications (PTMs) is presented. It is expected that this approach is able to completely duplicate the patterns of a particular protein's PTMs from an in vivo assay into an in vitro system.
