Two subsets of memory T lymphocytes with distinct homing potentials and effector functions
Article Abstract:
It has been established that immunological memory is displayed by distinct T-cell subsets: tissue-homing cells with various effector functions and lymph-node-homing cells with no inflammatory or cytotoxic function. These two subsets permit a division of labour among memory cells. This research suggests a precursor-product relationship between the two memory subsets. In vitro stimulation of naive T cells leads to the production of both Tcm and Tem cells, while stimulation of Tcm cells leads to their efficient differentiation to Tem cells.

Hidden lymphocytes
Article Abstract:
Atypical B lymphocytes can produce autoantibodies which, by dodging self-antigen-induced removal, help to initiate autoimmune disease. Researchers M. Murakami and colleagues at Kyoto University also demonstrated the role of tolerance induction in the B-lymphocyte compartment as a part of their effort at finding out exactly how autoimmune disease is brought on by immunological intolerance to self-antigens. Understanding the B-1 lymphocytes' role in autoimmune disease may lead to new treatments.

Hidden talent
Article Abstract:
An exhibition at the Imperial War Museum in London, until 18 November 2007, has explored the art of blending into the background. Many artists have contributed to the study of camouflage in nature, crypsis and disruptive patterns
