Cleaner fish really do clean
Article Abstract:
There is mutual benefit in the cleaning of client fish by cleaner fish. Cleaner fish obtain food, but client fish also benefit, according to research based on the relationship between the cleaner fish Labroides dimidiatus and the client fish Hemigymnus melapterus. In this relationship, the client fish benefits from reduced abundance of parasitic gnathiid isopods. This research forms the basis for using cleaning behaviour to test models of non-kin cooperation.

The lateral line can mediate rheotaxis in fish
Article Abstract:
The behavioural orientation to water currents is known as rheotaxis, and it has been shown than certain lateral-line receptors provide good information on water currents. A demonstration shows that rheotaxis can be mediated by the lateral line, following studies on three diverse fish species, indicating that superficial neruomasts make significant contributions to rheotactic behaviour in fish.

Negative genetic correlation between male sexual attractiveness and survival
Article Abstract:
Research is presented concerning the genetic association between the fitness of offspring and the attractiveness of male guppies. The association of heavy mutational loads or pleiotropic costs with genes controlling sexual attractiveness is discussed.
