Skeletal muscle hypertrophy is mediated by a Ca(super2+)-dependent calcineurin signalling pathway
Article Abstract:
Skeletal muscle hypertrophy and regeneration are adaptive responses to physical activity and pathological stimuli. Stable expression of a gene encoding insulin-like growth factor 1 (IGF-1) in C2C12 skeletal muscle cells leads to hypertrophy of differentiated myotubes. Ca(super2+)/calmodulin-dependent phosphatase calcineurin is activated by treatment with IGF-1 or insulin and dexamethasone. The calcineurin inhibitors cyclosporin A or FK506 suppress hypertrophy.

Methylation of a CTCF-dependent boundary controls imprinted expression of the Igf2 gene
Article Abstract:
It has been possible to produce direct evidence for a mechanism for Igf2 imprinting. Differential methylation of an enhancer boundary permits epigenetic control of Igf2 expression in the embryo.
