Clearance and fragmentation of tropical deciduous forest in the Tierras Bajas, Santa Cruz, Bolivia
Article Abstract:
Satellite-based estimates of the rates of clearance and fragmentation of forest and woodland in the Tierras Bajas area of Santa Cruz is reported and social groups based on characteristics spatial pattern of land use and land clearing is analyzed. The results indicate that if the fragmentation effects of deforestation are to be minimized, conservation planning should occur at the earliest stages of frontier development.

Predicting the pattern of decline of African primate diversity: an extinction debt from historical deforestation
Article Abstract:
A model that assesses the decline of African primate diversity from the beginning of habitat loss to extinction is examined. Historic deforestation and the calculation of extinction debts, or the time between habitat loss and population collapse is examined, and findings reveal the extinction debt consists of 30% of the forest primate animals.
