A judgement fit for prime time
Article Abstract:
The verdict that has cleared Thereza Imanishi-Kari of scientific misconduct rounds off a decade long saga in which persons and organizations have come under repeated appraisals. Repealing the biased ruling of the Office of Research Integrity (ORI), the Department of Health and Human Services has questioned the body's competence for objective judgements in allegations of scientific fraud. While new approaches to scientific misconduct are being debated, the explicit role played by the ORI and its future need to be deliberated upon before the case is finally closed.

German university withdraws doctorate after fraud charge
Article Abstract:
The University of Bonn rescinds the PhD awarded to Guido Zadel in the field of chiral synthesis on the grounds of scientific fraud. The work is a manipulation of the results of a laboratory experiment based on his thesis. Zadel, claiming to be under pressure to obtain positive results, insists that his thesis is correct and reproducible. Zadel's theory may be useful in the pharmaceutical industry for determining the left- and right-handed enantiomer products separately. The incident has generated a controversy over the extent of scientific frauds in Germany.
