Clutch size in an obligately siblicidal parasitoid wasp
Article Abstract:
Comperiella bifasciata, a solitary parasitoid wasp, may lay single or multiple egg clutches in its scale insect hosts. Multiple-egg clutches lead to obligate clutches, because the larvae suppress other conspecific larvae. Multiple-egg clutches are a quite common feature of the reproductive behavior of solitary parasitoid wasps. Environmental factors determine the clutch size. The absence of a good quality host and crowding of females from the same species lead to large size clutches.

Specialized searching and the hostile use of allomenes by a parasitoid whosehost, the butterfly Maculinea rebeli, inhabits ant nests
Article Abstract:
A study on the specialized searching and hostile use of allomones by Ichneumon eumerus whose host is the rare Maculinea rebeli that inhabits ant nests was conducted. Results indicate that the parasitoid searches for the host in the ant nest by scent and then deposits its eggs into the developing caterpillar. The young parasitoid survives the attacks of the ants upon its emergence by the use of anallomone and by its armor.
