Colonization and connectivity of habitat patches for coastal marine species distant from source populations

Article Abstract:

Research compares the abundances of benthic species on a rocky jetty encircled by dissimilar habitats on the Washington coast with those at distant bedrock sites within source habitats. Results show that organisms possessing a diverse life-history traits can persist at the distant and small patch of suitable habitat and that isolation along the shoreline does not remove either poor dispersers or obligate dispersers.

Using ecological-niche modeling to predict Barred Owl invasions with implications for Spotted Owl conservation

Article Abstract:

Research shows that the distribution of most of the northern Spotted Owls is vulnerable to Barred Owl invasion as determined by ecological niche models based on point-occurrence data. The potential effects of species invasions on the conservation of endangered species are also discussed.
