Extra-pair paternity in monogamous tree swallows
Article Abstract:
A study exploring the extra-pair paternity in monogamous Canadian tree swallows was conducted using multilocus DNA fingerprinting on their offspring. Results indicate that 50% of brood offspring had illegitimate fathers. Thirty eight percent of the offspring were illigitimate. Nearby male swallows were the fathers of the illigitimate offspring. No observations of adulterous behavior were seen.

Unfit mothers? Maternal infanticide in royal penguins
Article Abstract:
The first egg mortality amongst royal penguins is primarily due to the eggs' deliberate ejection by the female parent. The first egg is smaller in size and is less likely to hatch in comparison to the second-laid egg. Egg ejections are related to nest-building activities and have no relationship with extra-pair parentage. First egg mortality amongst other species of penguins is compared.
